Michael is an information security expert with over a decade of experience in performing digital forensic examinations, cyber investigations, and incident response post-mortems. Michael trained these security skills onto bitcoin and blockchains in 2012 when he launched Canada's first blockchain consultancy practice: Bitcoinsultants. Michael helped co-author the CryptoCurrency Security Standard and his work has secured hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin, Ether, and other cryptocurrencies. Michael serves on the boards of CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium (C4) and The Bitcoin Foundation, and he has testified about Bitcoin at the Canadian Senate's Committee on Banking, Trade, and Commerce. Michael has been qualified as an Expert Witness in the courts of Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
Michael is the president of C4, a non-profit standards organization dedicated to developing and maintaining standards that assist organizations in using blockchain technology such as Bitcoin. Michael is a prolific speaker about blockchains and security, and has addressed both technical and non-technical audiences about bitcoin and blockchains, explaining why and how the technology is transforming the world we live in.
Michael continues to conduct independent research in the security field and enjoys thinking of new ways to break things.
